Julia, Charlie tie for best actress at 7th Eddys; ‘About Us But Not About Us’ is best film

Julia Montes and Charlie Dizon were awarded Best Actress, while Piolo Pascual won Best Actor at the recently concluded 7th The EDDYS (Entertainment Editors’ Choice) by the Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd).

Julia won for her outstanding performance in the film “Five Breakups and a Romance,” and Charlie for “Third World Romance,” while Piolo won for “Mallari.”

This year, the film “About Us But Not About Us” was named Best Film, produced by The IdeaFirst Company, Octoberian Films, and Quantum Films, with Jun Robles Lana winning Best Director for the same film.

The Best Supporting Actress award went to Gladys Reyes for “Apag,” and the Best Supporting Actor award went to Enchong Dee for “GomBurZa.”

The awards night for the 7th EDDYS took place at the Ceremonial Hall of the Marriott Grand Ballroom, Newport World Resorts in Pasay City, directed by award-winning actor and filmmaker Eric Quizon.

The full awards night will be broadcast on ALLTV on July 14 at 10 p.m.

The event was hosted by Janine Gutierrez, the Best Actress at the 6th EDDYS for “Bakit Di Mo Sabihin?” along with Gabbi Garcia and Jake Ejercito.

Special performances were given by Jed Madela, Ogie Alcasid, drag queens Rampa Reynas, and promising young artists Elisha Ponti and Andrea Gutierrez.

Radio-online personality Mr. Fu served as the Red Carpet host.

A highlight of the event was the tribute to the new batch of EDDYS Icons, considered pillars of the movie industry, including Nova Villa, Leo Martinez, Lito Lapid, Eva Darren, and Gina Alajar.

A posthumous award was also given to the late comic strip creator, movie producer, and director Carlo J. Caparas, accepted by his children Peach and CJ Caparas.

SPEEd awarded the EDDYS Box Office Heroes to Dingdong Dantes, Marian Rivera, Alden Richards, Julia Montes, Kathryn Bernardo, and Piolo Pascual, who have significantly contributed to the resurgence of the Philippine movie industry.

The Isah V. Red Award for those who tirelessly help and inspire our fellow Filipinos in need was given to former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson and Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte, accepted by her father, former House Speaker Sonny Belmonte.

The Joe Quirino Award was given to veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez, while veteran entertainment columnist Ronald Constantino received the Manny Pichel Award.

This year’s Rising Producer Circle Award was given to Mentorque Productions, which produced the films “My Father Myself” and “Mallari.”

Brightlight Productions served as the line producer for the awards night.

In collaboration with Newport World Resorts and ALLTV, SPEEd was also supported in presenting The 7th EDDYS by Globe Telecom and iFern/Kim’s Diary.

This year’s event was also supported by DILG Secretary Benhur Abalos, Mayor Albee Benitez, Beautéderm by Rhea-Anicoche Tan, Unilab, Frontrow, Kat Corpus Atelier, Sen. Chiz Escudero, Sen. Bong Revilla, Camille Villar, Sen. Nancy Binay, former Ilocos Sur Governor Chavit Singson, Congressman Arjo Atayde, Emelette Gorospe, Rowena Gutierrez, Kamiseta, Casa Juan, and Echo Jham Entertainment Production.

Juancho Robles, Chan Robles & Company (CPAs) served as the official auditor.

This annual event by SPEEd recognizes the best of the best in Philippine Cinema.
