Jessy Mendiola is making a comeback to showbiz after a five-year break.
During her time away, the 31-year-old embraced her roles as wife to actor-host Luis Manzano and mother to their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Isabella Rose, affectionately called Peanut.
At a press conference held last Tuesday at ABS-CBN, Jessy expressed both excitement and nervousness about stepping back into the limelight. She candidly shared her initial apprehensions about returning to showbiz, revealing that she sought reassurance from her husband, Luis, about whether she was ready.
Jessy, who was part of Star Magic Batch 15, extended heartfelt gratitude to Star Magic for their warm welcome. “Nagulat ako kasi ganoon pala kalaki ang paghahanda ng aking ABS-CBN family and Star Magic family,” she said. “I’m overwhelmed with happiness and gratefulness. Ang dami palang nagmamahal sa akin and I’m just really excited kung ano ang gagawin namin ng ABS-CBN at Star Magic.”
She acknowledged her husband for taking care of their family during her hiatus, praising Luis for being an exceptional husband and father. She said he has allowed her to grow and supports her career direction, sharing that Luis told her he wouldn’t mind her taking on intimate scenes, as long as she is comfortable.
As for own her feelings about doing such scenes, she said: “Siguro kailangan pa ng matinding convincing ‘yung mga sensual and kissing scenes. But I’m not closing my doors. I’m open to it.”
Jessy also spoke about her support for Luis’s career, including his potential entry into politics. “I’ll support him all the way, kasama ko pa si Rosie,” she said.
When asked about the possibility of working with her ex, JM de Guzman, she responded positively. “Actually ang funny, never pa kaming nagkatrabaho ni JM ever. Never pa talaga. Siguro akala ng tao nagkatrabaho na kami kasi naging kami. And actually iyon nga ang pinaka-unang tanong sa akin nina Direk Lauren, ‘Are you willing to work with JM?’ And I said, ‘oo naman, of course, why not?’ We’ve moved on and andoon na ako sa point ng buhay namin na I have no bad blood with anyone.”
Regarding her family plans, Jessy expressed a desire for two more children. She shared that ABS-CBN assured her she could still pursue her career even if she becomes pregnant again, a reassurance she deeply appreciates.
As she embarks on this new chapter, Jessy’s first project remains under wraps, but she expressed a strong desire to work on a teleserye. She mentioned a desire to work with her mother-in-law, acclaimed actress Vilma Santos, and potential collaborations with her husband Luis and acclaimed actor Piolo Pascual. “Kung leading man siguro si Piolo kasi never ko pa siya nakatrabaho. Kung sa bagets naman siguro si Joshua,” she shared.
