Jerald Napoles sat down with the press yesterday to share his thoughts on his upcoming role in “Instant Daddy,” a Viva Entertainment production directed by Crisanto B. Aquino. Based on the Mexican movie directed and starred by Eugenio Derbez, “Instant Daddy” is a project that presented Jerald with both excitement and challenge.

“The lead actor of ‘Instructions Not Included’ was able to penetrate Hollywood because of this movie, so that’s a bit nerve-wracking, a real challenge. But I don’t want to get that pressure. Inisip ko na lang, ‘What if sa akin sya binigay? What if ako ‘yung original choice?’

“Then also, sobrang natuwa ako kasi an adaptation is always a big project for any actor, especially kung may pangalan ‘yung pelikula. So ‘yun, thankful ako.”

“Instant Daddy” tells the story of a playboy, Val (Jerald), who undergoes a transformative journey when he becomes a single father to a daughter. As she grows up, father and daughter embark on a quest to find her long-lost mother. It’s not the usual  project for Jerald, who is better known for his comedy and stars in the TV5 sitcom “Team A” alongside his girlfriend Kim Molina. He admitted he has found his groove in comedy and it has become natural to him. “Generally speaking, for other actors, mahirap magpatawa kesa magpaiyak kasi what’s funny to me may not be funny to you, so kailangan piliin ng lahat ng tao ‘yung joke na binebenta, bago sya masabi ng lahat na nakakatawa ka.  Hindi ko naman sinasabing mas madaling magpaiyak, iba rin naman iyon. Pero iba ‘yung binibigay na pressure ng pagpapatawa. Kasi kung magpapatawa ka, tapos walang tumatawa – waley, failure, flop.”

As to the kind of father he would be, Jerald quipped, “A pogi father.”

Turning serious, he added: “I will be a father in a way similar to how my mother and I are… kasi nakabuo kami ng friendship ng nanay ko. Kasi pag may frienship kasi ng kapamilya mo, madali kang magsabi kung may problema ka … Ganun ang friends. pag wala kayong friendship, walang ganyang talkies… Kapag may friendship, mas maiintindihan ko yung anak ko, mas maiintindihan ako ng anak ko.”

With a warm and relatable perspective on both comedy and fatherhood, Jerald Napoles is set to embark on a heartwarming journey in “Instant Daddy,” taking on a role that promises to be as charming as the man behind it.

“Instant Daddy” is showing on October 11.
