TYPHOON “Jenny” exited the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) yesterday afternoon but wind signals remained hoisted in several areas.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Jenny left the PAR at around 3 p.m. yesterday or seven hours after making landfall in Taiwan.

In a bulletin issued at 5 p.m. yesterday, PAGASA said Jenny was some 275 km west northwest of Itbayat, Batanes as of 4 p.m. yesterday.

Jenny was packing maximum sustained winds of 140 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 170 kph. It was moving westward at 15 kph, PAGASA said.

The northern portion of Batanes, specifically Itbayat, was under wind Signal No. 2.

The rest of Batanes, Babuyan Islands, northern portion of Apayao, and the northern portion of Ilocos were under Signal No. 1.

“Outside the PAR region, Jenny will continue to move westward (becoming west southwestward to southwestward by Sunday) slowly over the Taiwan Strait and the coastal waters of southeastern China,” said PAGASA.

“Once over the Taiwan Strait, additional cool dry air from the north will entrain into Jenny, resulting in continued weakening,” PAGASA also said.

It said Jenny may become a tropical depression by late Sunday.

PAGASA also said Batanes will be stormy while Babuyan Islands, Apayao, and Ilocos Norte will experience rains with gusty winds due to Jenny.

The rest of Cagayan Valley, the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Ilocos Region will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the trough of Jenny.

Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to Jenny-enhanced southwest monsoon.

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon and localized thunderstorms.
