ACTOR JC de Vera was elated to have been asked to join the sterling cast of the Philippine adaptation of the hit Korean series “Flower of Evil,” which is now receiving great reviews and is the first Philippine series to be released in 16 countries worldwide.
“It was a chance to do something different, because I have always played the leading man or the romantic interest or the third wheel in my past projects,” confessed JC, on why he jumped at the opportunity of taking in the role of a detective agent in the series.
Last year, JC also got to play an offbeat role as the spoiled heir who was out to avenge for his family’s misfortunes in “La Vida Lena.” His many good reviews in his portrayal as a baddie is proof JC’s transformation was a success.
“I really want to explore my versatility as an actor now, one who is character driven,” he stated, “and it’s about time.”
Now that he was given a chance to portray the character of Andrew Marcelo, the investigative partner of Iris Castillo Del Rosario, Lovi Poe’s character in “Flower of Evil,” JC did not hesitate and have any second thoughts in accepting the role.
“It’s something very different for me and it’s a big co-production with Viu International Ltd.,” he said. “Yes, it’s a big deal and a great opportunity, and I am very fortunate to be part of it.
“This is something I would run out and chase for and I’m so thankful it ended up on my lap,” he further said.
“And what an experience it was, and it was hard work, a good learning environment and it was a blast working with all these highly skilled professionals and co-actors in our Kapamilya set!” he added.
JC also has several projects under his belt. He recently finished an entry for the forthcoming Cinemalaya festival entitled “Bakit Di Mo Sabihin” set to be released in August, where he is paired for the first time with Janine Gutierrez. “It’s not a typical love story, it’s another different concept, one of which we put a lot of our heart and soul into,” he said.
This month, JC returns to romantic comedy in “The Entitled,” which is set to premiere on Netflix at the end of July. JC stars with Alex Gonzaga under the direction of Theodore Boborol in the project.
Meanwhile, catch JC in “Flower of Evil” aired every Saturday and Sunday at 9 p.m. on the Kapamilya Channel and A2Z and on Viu every Thursdays and Fridays at 8 p.m.
