THE Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will conduct public interviews for candidates vying for eight posts in the Court of Appeals (CA), which became vacant either due to promotions to the Supreme Court or the retirement of members.
In an advisory, the JBC said the public interview was tentatively set to start on October 22 and end on December 2.
A total of 67 candidates are set to be interviewed by the JBC, the body tasked by the Constitution to screen nominees and candidates to the judiciary.
The JBC said the previous interviews of 25 other candidates remain valid.
The public, the JBC said may submit a sworn complaint, report or opposition to the candidates by personal delivery, by mail to its office at the second floor of the Supreme Court Centennial building in Padre Faura, Manila, or through email or facsimile at jbc@sc.judiciary.gov.ph and jbc87supremecourt@gmail.com or at telephone number 552-9607 not later than 4:30 p.m. of October 22.
The JBC said vacant positions in the appellate court are those vacated by Justices Ramon Paul Hernando, Rosmari Carandang, Henri Jean Paul Inting and Amy Lazaro Javier.
They were appointed to the SC by President Duterte, with Hernando and Carandang appointed last October 10 and November 26, 2018, respectively.
Inting was appointed to the SC in February this year, followed a month later by Lazaro Javier.
The CA justices who retired are Carmelita Manahan (retired on March 21, 2019), Edward Contreras (retired on July 9, 2019), Sesinando Villon (retired on July 16, 2019) and Normandie Pizzaro (retired on Feb. 7, 2019). — Ashzel Hachero
