INFORMATION technology (IT) expert Angel Averia has been named as the acting chairman of the National Movement for Free Elections (Namfrel) after the resignation of former poll commissioner Augusto Lagman.

In a statement, Namfrel announced that Averia has been named acting chairperson by the organization’s National Council.

His designation comes after the national council accepted the resignation of Lagman in their meeting held on Tuesday.

“The National Council accepted the June 2 resignation of Mr. Augusto C. Lagman from Namfrel and as its national chairperson,” said Namfrel.

According to the poll watchdog, Averia joined Namfrel in 1992 as a volunteer member of its systems group, and later on, became a member of the national council.

At Namfrel, he assisted in setting up systems for election data collection and the conduct of parallel vote counts and analyzed election results data.

Averia also served as a member of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Advisory Council as the representative of Namfrel.

Namfrel said he has over 40 years of working experience in the information technology industry and held various supervisory and management positions in both marketing and technical support.

Averia similarly has experience in project management and consulting, application design, systems integration, systems implementation, project management, business continuity and disaster recovery planning and implementation, and information system security planning and implementation.
