THE Bureau of Immigration yesterday assured international travelers that there will be no disruption of services at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and other international ports of entry despite the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in the country.

Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said there will be no reduction in the work schedule of its officers at NAIA and other international ports.

Morente said he has directed BI acting port operations division chief Carlos Capulong to maintain the present work scheme and schedule of immigration officers assigned at international airports.

Close to 700 immigration officers are deployed at the three NAIA terminals.

“There will be no diminution of duty days of our port personnel as we are duty-bound to ensure that all international travelers who enter and exit our borders get the most efficient and hassle-free immigration service from our officers,” Morente said.

“In the past several weeks, we have seen a steady increase in the volume of international passengers entering and exiting our airports, thus it would only be prudent to keep our current manpower to ensure smooth and seamless service to the traveling public,” he added.

Previous resolutions issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases mandated that government personnel involved in border control operations such as the BI are allowed to operate at full capacity.

The BI had announced that it will observe a 60-percent on-site work capacity at its main office in Intramuros, Manila as well as satellite and field and extension offices in Metro Manila until January 15.
