IMMIGRATION personnel on Wednesday arrested in Batangas an overstaying American who is wanted by US authorities for a string of criminal cases.
Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete said Peter Alex Drier was apprehended by immigration personnel from the Fugitives Search Unit that was formed to track and arrest foreigners with criminal cases not only in the country but in their homelands.
“The said individual is an undocumented national and a fugitive from justice with an outstanding warrant of arrest issued by a court in San Diego, California for charges of assault with a deadly weapon and simple assault,” Perete said.
He said Drier will remain in the custody of the Batangas provincial police pending the result of a swab test to check if he has the COVID-19 virus.
As per immigration procedure, if his swab test shows he is negative for the virus, he will be brought to the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending his deportation.
Perete said Drier will be immediately deported provided no criminal complaint was filed against him in the country.
Overstaying is an immigration-related offense.
