THE last-ever Manic Monday at Wimbledon produced a scintillating day of fourth-round action with men’s top seed Novak Djokovic and women’s No. 1 Ash Barty both advancing to the quarterfinals along with a bunch of players who will be in the last eight at the grass court slam for the first time.

Djokovic cruised past Chile’s Cristian Garin 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 to move to within three wins of a record-equaling 20th Grand Slam title, although Roger Federer, the man he hopes to join, remains in the hunt for a ninth Wimbledon title after beating Lorenzo Sonego 7-5, 6-4, 6-2.

Canada will have two representatives in the men’s singles quarterfinals here for the first time after Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime both made it past the fourth round.

FEDERER

Shapovalov outclassed Roberto Bautista Agut 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 and Auger-Aliassime won a five-setter against Germany’s fourth seed Alexander Zverev 6-4, 7-6(6), 3-6, 3-6, 6-4.

Djokovic will face unseeded Marton Fucsovics after the Hungarian beat Russian Andrey Rublev 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinal of a slam for the first time.

Federer must wait to discover his quarterfinal opponent after Daniil Medvedev’s match with Hubert Hurkacz was interrupted by rain.
