TOURISM Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat yesterday said international arrivals in the Philippines have surpassed the 300,000-mark since the country reopened its borders to fully vaccinated travelers two months ago.

During the Laging Handa public forum, Puyat said that from February 10 to April 25, the country has recorded 313,050 international arrivals, mainly from the United States, Canada, and South Korea.

The tourism chief said this indicates that the country is slowly getting back to normal.

“Many Filipinos were afraid to go out during the lockdown, but they are really traveling now,” Puyat said, adding that tour operators are now able to get new clients, with travelers, especially families, preferring longer stays to spend more time together.

Amid the reinvigorated tourism industry, Puyat reminded the public to continue to observe COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
