THE Bureau of Correction yesterday said the inmate that was described by the National Bureau of Investigation as having “dictated the tempo” of the buy-bust operation that led to the deadly misencounter between the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and PNP last February is cooperating with the investigation on his activities while in detention.

BuCor spokesman Gabriel Chaclag said Melvin Magallon, who is detained at the Sablayan Penal Colony in Occidental Mindoro, has been talking with NBI probers after his name cropped up in the investigation on the incident that left two policemen, a PDEA operative, and a PDEA informant dead.

“When we were able to identify his role in the incident, we immediately placed him on isolation where he remained until now. He is being interviewed by the NBI,” Chaclag said in a text message when sought for additional details on the NBI-BuCor investigation on Magallon.

The investigation is focused on Magallon’s role in the buy-bust operation and on how he was able to get hold of a cellular phone while in detention.

Chaclag declined to provide additional information on the investigation or what Magallon has told authorities.
