Infections up to 1,108,826; 90 more deaths

NINETY more deaths due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, along with 6,846 new cases that raised the total number of infections in the country to 1,108,826.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said five laboratories failed to submit data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) on May 8.

The death toll rose to 18,562 for a case fatality rate of 1.67.

Active cases dipped to 59,897, with 93.7 percent of them mild cases, 2.2 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.7 percent severe cases, 1.3 percent critical cases, and 1.1 percent moderate cases.

The DOH also reported 8,193 new recoveries as the number of survivors climbed to 1,030,367.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said one of its personnel assigned at the embassy in New Delhi, India died of the deadly virus but provided no other details.

The DFA also said that five more overseas Filipinos have tested positive for the deadly virus, raising to 18,545 the total number of Filipinos in 94 countries and territories infected.

But no new fatality was reported. The current death toll among overseas Filipinos stands at 1,160, with 758 of them in the Middle East and African regions, 243 in the Americas, 130 in Europe and 29 in the Asia Pacific region.

The DFA also reported no new recoveries. The DFA said 11,349 overseas Filipinos have recovered from the virus.

A policeman assigned with the Asipulo town police station in Ifugao died of COVID-19, bringing to 59 the PNP death toll due to the virus.

The 40-year-old patrolman tested positive May 6, was brought to a hospital on May 8 and died a day after. — With Ashzel Hachero and Victor Reyes
