Infections now 1,054,983; death toll rises to 17,431

SEVENTY-SEVEN more succumbed to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while 8,346 new cases were reported by the Department of Health yesterday, raising the number of infections in the country to 1,054,983.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said the new cases do not include figures from seven laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) on April 30.

The death toll rose to 17,431 for a case fatality rate of 1.65.

There were 71,472 active cases, with 94.7 percent of them mild cases, 1.9 percent asymptomatic cases, 1.4 percent severe cases, 1.1 percent critical cases, and 0.90 percent moderate cases.

The number of survivors rose to 966,080 after 9,072 more recoveries were reported by the DOH, which said that 91.6 percent of COVID patients have recovered.

The Department of Foreign Affairs said it did not receive report of any overseas Filipino who tested positive or succumbed to the deadly virus yesterday. No new recoveries were also reported.

As of May 1, the DFA said 18,380 Filipinos in 94 countries have contracted the virus while 1,147 have died, 747 of them in the Middle East and African regions, 241 in the Americas, 130 in Europe and 29 in Asia and the Pacific. — With Ashzel Hachero
