THE Department of Health reported 8,767 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases yesterday as the total number of infections in the country rose to 971,049, just 28,951 cases more of reaching the grim milestone of 1million.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH also reported 105 more deaths, bringing to 16,370 the total number of deaths caused by the deadly virus since last year, for a case fatality rate of 1.69 percent.
The DOH said the new cases do not include figures from five laboratories that failed to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS) while another laboratory did not operate last April 20.
There were 17,138 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 846,691. The DOH said this means that 87.2 percent of COVID patients have recovered.
The number of active cases dipped further to 107,988, accounting for 11.1 percent of COVID cases in the country.
Of the active cases, 96.6 percent are mild cases, 1.3 percent are asymptomatic cases, 0.9 percent are severe cases, 0.7 percent are critical cases, and 0.55 percent are moderate cases.
Fifty-three more overseas Filipinos have contracted the deadly virus, bringing the overall number to 18,218, according to the Department of Foreign Affairs.
The DFA also reported one new fatality for a total death toll of 1,122, and 19 more recoveries, raising the number of overseas survivors to 11,181.
The Middle East and African regions still had the most number of COVID cases and deaths with 10,436 and 732, respectively, followed by the Asia Pacific region with 3,496, Europe with 3,341 and 945 in the Americas.
The Americas had the second highest deaths among overseas Filipinos with 234, followed by Europe with 130 and 26 in the Asia Pacific region. — With Ashzel Hachero
