THE PNP yesterday urged people who plan to attend the inauguration of President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on June 30 at the National Museum in Manila to use transparent bags.
PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Maj. Gen. Valeriano De Leon said this will ensure faster inspection of belongings of people who want to be part of the change of the country’s leadership.
“We’re advising them, if they are bringing bags, to use the transparent ones so we can see (their belongings) from the outside,” De Leon said in a radio interview.
De Leon reiterated that the PNP has not monitored any threat to the inauguration of Marcos and of Vice President-elect Sara Duterte-Carpio on June 19 in Davao City.
“We have not received any threat,” De Leon said, adding that some 2,000 policemen will be deployed during the inauguration of Duterte-Carpio.
Authorities are still finalizing the details of the security measures that will be implemented during the inauguration of Marcos.
De Leon said that while the inauguration is open to the public, everybody cannot be allowed in.
“This one is open to the public but, of course, we could not accommodate everyone. We will have to control (the crowd),” said De Leon. “Also, we want to inform everybody that we are going to implement health protocols.”
De Leon said some streets adjacent to the museum will have to be closed. “We will have several advisories one week prior. We are still talking about the adjustments, before we will do the advisories,” he said.
De Leon said the recent bombings in Tacurong City in South Cotabato, Koronadal City in Sultan Kudarat, and Isabela City in Basilan won’t affect the inauguration of the incoming president and vice president.
Citing initial intelligence assessment done by the PNP, De Leon said the bombings “have nothing to do” with the inaugurations. The military earlier said terrorist groups were behind the attacks.
