A STASH of improvised weapons, cellular phones and other prohibited items were confiscated yesterday from inmates inside the maximum-security compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, the Bureau of Corrections said.

The items were seized during an early morning “Oplan Galugad” operation conducted by the BuCor, assisted by a police contingent from the National Capital Region Police Office and the Special Weapons and Tactics team of the Muntinlupa City Police.

While the operation was underway, the BuCor also raised the red alert status inside the maximum-security compound to prevent any clash or incident between inmates and the BuCor and police operatives.

“Some of the items confiscated during the operation were cellular phones, charger, SIM card, tobacco, improvised weapons and other contraband items that are strictly prohibited inside the prison facility,” BuCor spokesperson Julie Taguiam said.

As of 2:30 p.m. yesterday, Taguiam said theBuCor was still conducting an investigation and tabulating the quantity of the seized items.

Oplan Galugad operations are routinely undertaken not only at the NBP but other BuCor-operated prison facilities to confiscate prohibited items and ensure that peace and order reigned inside its facilities and secure the safety of the inmates and BuCor personnel.

The operation was led by BuCor Deputy Director General for Administration Gabriel Chaclag, Chief Supt. Ricardo Zulueta, the acting superintendent of the NBP minimum security compound, and Chief Supt. Jeyferson Bon-As, acting superintendent of the maximum-security compound.
