PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) and PNP operatives arrested an alleged illegal recruiter and his cohort preying on people applying to become PCG members in Isabela City, Basilan last Monday, it was reported yesterday.
The suspects were identified as Yazier Tanji Balling, 32, and his companion, Rodel Alegre, 44, residents of Isabela City.
In a statement, the PCG said the two were nabbed in an entrapment operation in Barangay Binuangan, Isabela City.
They were accosted shortly after receiving P91,000 in marked money from the complainant, a PCG applicant.
Apart from marked money, the suspects also yielded PCG application folders and a cell phone.
The two are currently under the custody of the Isabela City police station, facing charges for violation of Article 315 ng Revised Penal Code (estafa).
The PCG reiterated its appeal to the public to report to the PCG Human Resource Management Command or to the PCG Intelligence Force anyone seeking money in exchange for enlistment with the PCG.
On Monday last week, another illegal recruiter, Nelson Abordo, was also arrested by PCG and PNP operatives in Paranaque City in another entrapment operation.
