MAKATI City police yesterday said the husband of the Chinese offshore gaming employee kidnapped last Monday in Makati and his friend are persons of interest in the incident.
In a radio interview, Major Gideon Ines, chief of the investigation division of the Makati police, said there were inconsistencies in the statement of Chen Tangbin, the husband of the victim Zhou Mei, when he was interviewed last Tuesday.
As of yesterday, Zhou has yet to be rescued.
Ines said Zhou is a manager of the New Weather Company, an offshore gaming firm based in the city.
“She handles financial matters for the company,” Ines said.
The identity of the victim and the men who allegedly kidnapped her were determined through documents recovered at the kidnap site.
Chen’s companions were identified as Zhu Jianwei and Chen Tangbin.
Amid the rash of kidnapping incidents involving Chinese, the Justice Department yesterday said the Bureau of Immigration has a standing arrangement with the PNP for the identification of those involved and their deportation if warranted.
The PNP-Anti-Kidnapping Group said the number of kidnapped Chinese has increased by 71 percent from 2018 to 2019. — Rod Lagusad and Ashzel Hachero
