THE House of Representatives and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) have formally agreed to apprehend the drivers of vehicles bearing No. “8” plates and confiscate the expired and spurious plates, House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said yesterday.
Velasco met with Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acting Chairman Romando Artes last Tuesday night and they agreed that “using unauthorized and illegal special plates should not be tolerated as it threatens public safety and undermines the integrity of the vehicle registration system.
“The House leadership is committed to upholding the law and ensuring vehicle identification plates’ proper and lawful use,” Velasco said.
In a memorandum last November 16, Velasco announced that expired No. 8 plates could be turned over to his office for proper acknowledgment.
“This is to respectfully request the immediate recall of all expired Protocol Plates No. 8 issued during the past Congresses as well as spurious protocol 8 plates which may have come to your possession,” the memorandum said. “Kindly turn in these car plates to the Office of the Secretary-General for proper acknowledgment. Thank you.”
The House leadership made the move amid reports that some individuals have been using No. 8 plates illegally to avoid apprehension for traffic violations.
