MORE allies of Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano lost plum posts at the House of Representatives on Wednesday night after the new leadership replaced them with supporters of new Speaker Lord Alan Jay Velasco.
The House leadership elected as deputy speakers Reps. Rufus Rodriguez of Cagayan De Oro City, Jose Atienza of Buhay party-list and Camille Villar of Las Piñas City, a party mate of Cayetano’s in the Nacionalista Party.
Villar later sent a letter to Velasco declining the position, saying she would rather focus on her work as an ordinary member of the House to help approve measures that would provide assistance to typhoon victims while the country is battling a pandemic.
“It is an opportune time to work with my fellow congressmen and the leaders of the House of Representatives on policy measures that would give personal and economic relief to our kababayans amid the past disasters and the pandemic. But the greater tact is adherent responsibility to our constituents, and the constant affinity to the leadership and nation.
Rest assured that I am committed to your goals as a partner in development and will support your legislative agenda in the formation of a Congress of the people,” Villar said.
Rodriguez and Atienza, who were among those who openly pushed for Velasco to assume power pursuant to his term-sharing agreement with Cayetano, replaced Reps. Dan Fernandez of Laguna and Fredenil Castro of Capiz who delivered a scathing privilege speech against Velasco prior to his election as speaker.
