Hontiveros wants prostitution at Fontana probed

SEN. Risa Hontiveros yesterday asked authorities to conduct an investigation on alleged prostitution activities at the Fontana Leisure Parks and Casinos after several foreigners reportedly involved in the flesh trade were arrested by police in the resort last Wednesday.

Hontiveros issued the call in the wake of the arrest of seven Chinese men, six Chinese women, and two Vietnamese women reportedly engaged in prostitution and human trafficking at the resort in Pampanga.

She said the PNP and Clark Development Corp. must unmask those behind the illegal activities, adding they seem to be taking advantage of the government’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hontiveros said the owner and administration of Fontana Leisure Parks and Casinos must be investigated for possible liability since this is not the first time that illegal activities were discovered there. She said that last May an illegal hospital for tenants and workers for a Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators company was also discovered at the resort.

She added that more than 1,300 illegal Chinese workers were arrested by authorities in December 2016 at the same premises.

“Fontana’s license to operate can be suspended and eventually revoked if there’s negligence on their part in making sure that crimes do not thrive within their premises. It is their responsibility to make sure that their tenants follow the law,” Hontiveros said.
