THE leader of a gun-for-hire group was injured and subsequently arrested, along with his live-in partner, after a shootout with policemen in Cabatuan town in Iloilo yesterday morning.
Police said Joan Lego, 41, a resident of Barangay Acao in Cabatuan, is the leader of the Libuna-Lego Gang involved in gun-for-hire, robbery and other crimes.
Lego’s live-in partner, identified as Maylin Araneta, 28, was also arrested.
Police operatives swooped down on the residence of Lego to serve several arrest warrants against him for illegal possession of firearms, ammunition and explosives, robbery, theft, and carnapping.
Lego shot it out with the lawmen and was wounded. He was brought to the Ramon Tabiana Memorial District Hospital for treatment.
Police recovered a home-made shotgun, several ammunition, and a fragmentation grenade at Lego’s residence.
