Gun ban violators up to 836

THE number of people arrested for violating the election gun ban has climbed to 836, the PNP reported yesterday.

The arrests were the results of 715 police operations nationwide from the start of the election gun ban last January 9 up to midnight of Sunday.

The top five areas where violators were nabbed included 262 in the National Capital Region, 109 each in Central Visayas and Southern Tagalog regions, 66 in Central Luzon, and 49 in Western Visayas.

Of those arrested, 803 were civilians, nine were members of the PNP, five were from the armed forces, and 11 were security guards.

Topping the list of confiscated items were 290 assorted firearms, 236 bladed weapons, 54 explosives, and 4,072 assorted bullets.

The election gun ban will last until June 8.
