NEARLY a year since the first coronavirus disease (COVID-19) case was detected in the country, the total number of infections has breached the 500,000 mark, counting the 1,895 new cases reported by the Department of Health Sunday.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH said Davao City had 107 new cases, followed by Quezon City 106, Isabela 65, Pampanga 63, and Bulacan 62.
Overall, COVID cases in the country now stand at 500,577 with 9,895 deaths that include 11 more who have succumbed to the deadly virus.
The DOH said the results of tests conducted in five laboratories were not included in the latest data.
The agency had warned of a big surge in the country’s cases due to increased mobility and social gatherings over the holidays and the recent Feast of the Black Nazarene that lured hundreds of thousands of devotees.
The first confirmed case of the deadly virus was recorded in the country on January 30 last year, a 38-year-old female Chinese visitor from Wuhan, then the epicenter of the outbreak.
Less the deaths and recoveries, the DOH said there are 24,691 active cases in the country, of which 84.6 percent are mild cases, 6.6 percent are asymptomatic cases, 5.3 percent are critical cases, 3 percent are severe cases, and 0.47 percent moderate cases.
