GRAFT charges have been filed by the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) against the administrator of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) for allegedly allowing electric cooperatives to contribute funds to the campaign of a party list candidate in 2019.
PACC Commissioner Greco Belgica said an online complaint was filed on Monday with the Office of the Ombudsman against NEA administrator Edgardo Masongsong for alleged violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and the Omnibus Election Code.
Belgica said Masungsong was charged for not opposing a provision in several board resolutions issued by electric cooperatives allowing the use of their funds to help in the campaign of the Philippine Rural Electric Cooperatives Association’s (Philreca) in its party list bid in 2019.
“The administrator NEA, Mr. Edgardo Masongsong… with the rank of undersecretary, never opposed the provision of the board resolution that ended in the contribution of the electric cooperatives to different party list such as PHILRECA,” Belgica said.
Belgica said the PACC will submit the physical complaint against Masongsong before the Office of the Ombudsman next week once the agency opens.
Belgica urged the public to continue submitting complaints before the PACC against corrupt officials even if the investigation and the filing of charges takes time.
He explained that the PACC thoroughly investigates all complaints submitted to it and makes sure that it has a solid case when it sues government officials and employees before the Ombudsman.
