WORK in government offices and classes in all levels in Manila and Pasay were suspended yesterday by Malacanang from October 14 to 15 due to the country’s hosting of the 10th Session of the Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (APMCDRR) next week.
Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in issuing Memorandum Order No. 66 on October 10, said with the hosting of the international event, “numerous participants expected to travel to and within the” two cities for the opening ceremony and first day of the APMCDRR which is hosted by the Philippines, in partnership with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction.
Bersamin said the suspension of work for private companies and offices is left to the discretion of their respective heads.
Exempted from the suspension are agencies whose functions involve the delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disasters and calamities, and/or the performance of other vital services shall continue their operations and render the necessary services.
