THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) yesterday confirmed the death of overseas Filipino worker (OFW) Marjorette Garcia in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and said an investigation on the circumstances behind it are already ongoing.
In a statement, the DMW said they are already in coordination with the local police authorities in Saudi Arabia regarding the death of the 32-year-old household service worker (HSW).
“DMW confirms the death of Saudi-based overseas Filipino worker Marjorette Garcia. The DMW, through the Migrant Workers Office in Al-Khobar Saudi Arabia (MWO-Al Khobar) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), are working in coordination with the Philippine Embassy as well as local police authorities in an ongoing investigation into the circumstances behind OFW Marjorette’s death,” it said.
In addition, the DMW said it is already working on the immediate repatriation of the remains of Garcia.
“MWO-Al Khobar and OWWA are coordinating arrangements as well with OFW Marjorette’s family for the return of her remains at the soonest possible time,” said DMW.
Last Saturday, reports came out that Garcia was found dead in Saudi Arabia.
Garcia, who was deployed abroad in 2021, last talked to her family on September 15.
The DMW expressed its condolences to the family and loved ones of the OFW and assured them of “our continuing support during their time of grief and in the ongoing investigation.”
