PRESIDENT Duterte has approved a P7.4-billion additional funding for the construction of about 32,000 more houses for victims of typhoon “Yolanda” which hit the country seven years ago, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles on Saturday night.

Target completion of the additional 32,294 housing units is before the President’s term ends in June 2022.

Nograles, concurrent head of Task Force Yolanda, said the additional fund is meant to ensure the completion of the rehabilitation program for the areas that were hardest hit by Yolanda on Nov. 8, 2013.

Yolanda (international name: Haiyan) left at least 7,000 persons dead and destroyed millions worth of infrastructure and product.

He said most of the additional houses will be built in Regions VI (Western Visayas) and VII (Eastern Visayas).

Nograles said to date, 133,107 of the 195,388 housing units that were targeted for construction in the Yolanda-affected areas in Regions IV-B (Mimaropa), VI (Western Visayas), VII (Central Visayas) and VIII (Eastern Visayas) have been completed and turned over to beneficiaries.

The remaining 38,281 units are in various stages of completion.

Nograles on Thursday led the virtual turnover of the 122 housing units to beneficiaries of the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project, from Barangay San Isidro, MacArthur town in Leyte.
