THE Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) yesterday said the government is ready to give assistance to the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose daughter was allegedly raped and strangled by her godfather in Cavite last week.
In a phone interview, Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople said migrant worker Mary Ann Delos Santos arrived in the country late Monday night from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA).
“We already provided financial assistance to Mary Ann last night (Monday night),” said Ople, adding that OWWA will also provide burial assistance to the family of Delos Santos.
Ople said the government will likewise give livelihood assistance to Delos Santos, who has earlier expressed desire to just stay home instead of returning abroad.
“She just wants to look after her family… We will provide them a small store so that she will no longer need to be away from her children,” said Ople.
On Monday night, Delos Santos arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on board Flight SV870, where she was welcomed by Ople and other DMW and OWWA officials. The officials then accompanied the distraught mother to Cavite.
Delos Santos was repatriated after her 7-year-old daughter was found dead in a creek in Barangay Cabuco in Trece Martires, Cavite last Thursday.
Initial investigation indicated the child was allegedly raped and strangled by her godfather, who the former accompanied to supposedly look for his ex-girlfriend.
