Actress-producer Gloria Sevilla passed away Saturday, April 16 in the US. She was 90 years ago.
Sevilla, known as the “Queen of Visayan Movies,” “died peacefully in her sleep” in California, according to her family.
The Cebuana actress was married to lawyer Mat Ranillo Jr., who perished in a plane crash in 1969. The marriage produced six children, including Dandin, Suzette, and Mat III, who all became actors. Gloria and Mat Jr. starred and produced Visayan movies and were later crowned as “King and Queen of Visayan Movies.”
In 1971, Gloria remarried and became Mrs. Amado Cortez. She and the late actor had a child, Czareanah.
Sevilla starred in several mainstream projects, including the hit TV show “Be Careful with My Heart” and full-length films, including “Maestra” and “M: Mother’s Maiden Name.” She also won several acting awards as best lead star and supporting actress.
Gloria Sevilla was born on January 31, 1932 in Cebu.
