Talented rappers from Universal Records Philippines, including Gloc-9, Hero, and Ramdiss, have earned a coveted spot on the iconic Times Square billboard in New York City, USA. Their presence on the billboard is part of the KALYE X campaign, a Spotify initiative that celebrates Pinoy hip-hop through meaningful collaborations with artists and communities. The billboard also showcases other notable hip-hop artists like Midnasty, Cookie$, and Morobeats.

With their latest track, “Umaga,” amassing nearly 150,000 streams, Gloc-9, Hero, and Ramdiss have created a powerful anthem that encourages listeners to break free from societal expectations. Despite their diverse backgrounds, these three artists joined forces to craft this impactful song.

Said Gloc-9, “I love writing songs about real stories and struggles of people, and being able to capture what we go through every day. As an artist, I want my music to resonate with everyone, hip-hop fan or not. That is why I take pride in creating songs that tell people’s stories like what we did here for our Spotify Single, ‘Umaga,’”

Ramdiss shared, “I take pride in the lessons I’ve learned from those who laid the foundation for rap music in the Philippines. At tulad ng dati, ay patuloy akong magiging alagad ng rap at habambuhay akong makikibaka para sa kapakanan ng lirisismo at sining.”

Hero is grateful for the career milestone. “I also love seeing people get inspired by my songs. I’m grateful that Spotify helps artists like us reach a wider audience, enable collaborations with great talents, and open new doors. Wala akong hinangad kundi gumawa nang gumawa ng awitin at hindi ko naman inaasahan na dito ako dadalhin ng bagay na minahal kong gawin.”

Gloc-9, Ramdiss, and Hero made their debut live performance of “Umaga” at KALYE X Manila last October 28 in Makati.
