MORE employment opportunities are set to open in Germany for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), according to the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In a statement, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced the signing of two labor agreements between the Philippines and Germany: One for the deployment of professionals and skilled workers and another for the recruitment of private sector nurses and other healthcare workers.
“These two freshly signed bilateral labor instruments with Germany are the gifts of the Philippine government to our Filipino migrant workers in recognition of their sacrifices, perseverance, and diligence that have kept our nation afloat amidst the global crisis in the last two years,” Bello said.
“With this development, better job opportunities, in addition to nurses and other professionals, await our skilled workers as we showcase the competence and exemplary talents of the Filipino workers,” he added.
He said the first pact is a Letter of Intent, which will facilitate the recruitment, deployment, and employment of Filipino professionals and skilled workers in Germany.
It is expected to open opportunities for electrical mechanics and fitters, electronics services, cooks, hotel receptionists, waiters, plumbers, and pipe fitters, among others.
Bello said the Memorandum of Understanding on the Deployment of Filipino Healthcare Professionals to Germany will allow the recruitment of nurses to private hospitals as well as other healthcare workers.
These include work opportunities for physiotherapists, radiographers, occupational therapists, biomedical scientists, and other allied health professionals.
Prior to the two labor pacts, the two nations were working under the Triple Win Project, a government-to-government arrangement for the recruitment of Filipino nurses to Germany.
Since its implementation, about 1,811 Filipino nurses have been deployed to Germany.
