THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said part of the Pasig River from PUP to Escolta in Manila became temporarily impassable yesterday morning due to garbage obstructing the waterway.
In a post on its social media account, the agency said it has sent several trash skimmers to collect the garbage floating in the waterway.
“The Pasig River from PUP to Escolta is not passable because of garbage. It is being continuously cleaned using thrash skimmers to collect the garbage,” the agency said.
The agency, through its communications unit, said the route became passable at around 10 a.m. after their clean-up crew managed to remove the garbage.
It also clarified the post on the agency’s social media account saying there were only slight changes to the operation of the Pasig River Ferry Service due to the incident.
“The Pasig River Ferry Service explained that there were only changes in the schedule of the ferry since one of the propellers of one of the boats got tangled with garbage. The area was not totally unpassable this morning,” it said.
The incident prompted the agency to reiterate its appeal to the public not to throw their garbage haphazardly.
