PROS should act like pros, even in their private lives.
This is apparently the message that Games and Amusements Board chairman Abraham “Baham” Mitra is trying to send to pro players over the issue hounding Magnolia playmaker Jio Jalalon.
The 5-foot-9 Jalalon is facing accusations of infidelity and domestic abuse from his wife Kristina.
While suggesting the couple work on their differences privately, Mitra said if and when proven, “domestic abuse” is a serious matter and the country’s government body for pro sports would not condone such wrongdoing.
“About (Jio) Jalalon medyo personal po iyan and we would like the couple to fix it themselves muna,” Mitra told Malaya-Business Insight.
“But if it escalates to even mild domestic violence, ipapatawag na namin. Parang unprofessional na iyan,” he added.
Kristina Jalalon posted a series of Instagram stories that went viral last Friday, claiming his husband has an affair and abused her.
Jalalon, 28, is tightlipped on the issue.
Mitra said there is no revocation provision in the GAB license of pro players if a case is filed against them but becoming unprofessional should at least merit a meeting.
A former Palawan governor and son of the late House Speaker Ramon Mitra Jr., Mitra refused to comment if Jalalon’s case would have ramifications on his license, at least for now.
“No comment muna. We will wait and see,” Mitra said.
