TO recognize the efforts of professionals during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic, the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has decided to grant Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credit units to all those serving as frontliners and responders.

“During this crisis, the Commission recognizes the heroic and indispensable services that professionals have been tirelessly providing in various ways during this period,” said the PRC in a resolution dated May 15.

Under the CPD Law, earning a specific number of credit units is necessary in the renewal of professional ID cards of all registered and licensed professionals.

The PRC said the credit units will be granted under the Professional Work Experience (PWE) and Self-Directed Learning (SDL) modality.

SDL activities are defined as those driven by one’s need and motivation to learn either through a professional activity such as professional work experience or volunteer engagement. On the other hand, PWE refers to participation in a specific field and work place.

As provided by the resolution, qualified to get a maximum of 45 CPD credit units are health and emergency frontliners who provided public health services, disaster risk reduction management officers, and public safety officers; researchers and scientists who developed testing kits, and designed constructed accommodations for COVID-19 patients and healthcare workers; and vital goods and services providers, who provided health and social services to secure the safety and well-being of persons, such as food, water, medicine, medical devices, public utilities, energy, and others.

Qualified for 25 credit units are volunteer professionals, who offered services during the crisis, including answering queries about COVID-19, online consultation, public health education, and other activities directly related to their profession; and volunteer professionals, who responded and participated in corporate social responsibility programs, whether in their personal capacity or through organizations, who collected, packed, and distributed medical supplies and masks or personal protective equipment to hospitals/ medical facilities, and distributed food to frontliners serving in hospitals/medical facilities and security check points.

Professionals who wish to avail of the grant may submit a certification from an institution, agency, or entity or their own declaration as proof of the services rendered.
