THE Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) will now provide free legal assistance to single parents or separated spouses seeking financial and moral support for their children from the liable spouse or parent.
This developed as the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Erwin Tulfo and PAO chief Persida Acosta signed a supplemental Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to provide additional protection, including free legal services, to solo parents and their children.
The DSWD said it has been receiving a lot of requests for legal assistance from solo parents prompting the agreement. It did not provide any figure.
“The current administration has identified the need to provide and extend legal advice and assistance to victims of economic abuse, particularly those children and solo parents who need legal services to enforce financial and moral support from the concerned father and spouse,” Tulfo said.
