ASIDE from those currently employed abroad, former overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are also included in government’s housing program, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said yesterday.
“All existing OFWs are qualified as well as those who can show proof that they are former OFWs, especially if they continue to be active members of Pag-IBIG Fund (Home Development Mutual Fund),” DMW Assistant Secretary Venecio Legaspi said in a TV interview.
On Tuesday, the DMW, the Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD), and the Pag-IBIG Fund signed a memorandum of understanding which makes OFWs eligible for the DHSUD’s Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH).
Legaspi said said the inclusion of former OFWs in the 4PH program comes as no less than the DHSUD refused to put a limit to the number of housing units to be allocated to the OFW sector.
“As long as there are OFWs applying and we have available units, there is no cap provided to this. As long as they meet the requirements, they can avail,” said Legaspi quoting Housing Secretary Jose Rizalino Acuzar.
Under the agreement, the DHSUD will provide a list of housing programs and services for eligible OFWs and their families.
