THE Sandiganbayan has denied the request of former Technology Resource Center (TRC) director general Dennis Cunanan for leave of court to attend an event in the United States and to visit his children who are studying there.
In a resolution dated November 8, 2021 but released only yesterday, the anti-graft court’s Fourth Division ruled that Cunanan’s urgent motion asking for the issuance of an Allow Departure Order lacked merit.
The defendant filed his motion on October 13 this year, followed by a supplement dated October 19, 2021 asking permission to travel to the United States for a period covering 21 days from October 15 to November 5, 2021.
However, his itinerary showed he had planned on attending a seminar on October 15 to 19, 2021; a visit with his children at a university in Indiana, USA from October 21 to 25, 2021; and receiving medical donations from a private foundation to the Philippines on October 28 to 30, 2021 before heading back to the country.
Cunanan argued that he cannot be considered a flight risk since he has several businesses and properties in the country.
