FORMER foreign affairs secretary Roberto “Bobby” Romulo died on Sunday at the age of 83.
Romulo’s passing was confirmed by his family as well as the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation but the cause of his death was not disclosed.
According to the foundation, Romulo, son of the late statesman and United Nations General Assembly President Carlos P.Romulo, has been a prominent figure in the country’s private sector, joining several companies either as board member or chairperson.
Among these are AIG Philippines Insurance, Inc.,PETNET Inc., Medilink Network Inc., and Nationwide Development Corporation.
He also served for 25 years in IBM Corporation starting in 1965, where he held various marketing and management positions in New York, Thailand and the Philippines as president and general manager.
He joined the public service in 1989 after he was appointed ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Commission of the European Communities.
He was appointed by President Fidel Ramos as DFA chief in 1992.
