FOREIGN workers in Taiwan are beginning to feel the effects of the political tension between China and Taiwan, with some of them laid off because of “weakened” production, Migrante-Taiwan chairperson Gilda Banugan said yesterday.

She said the manufacturing industry has started to see employees being discharged, based on reports the migrant workers group have received.

“Workers have started to feel the effects of the tension in the workplace as some companies are now laying off or dismissing migrant workers as production weakened,” said Banugan.

“Several companies weakened their production because of the tension between Taiwan and China,” she added.

As to the security condition, she said it is “still normal.”

“There is no news on the effects of the tension yet. No advisory has been issued so far,” said Banugan.
