THIRDY Ravena is raring to prove his worth in the Japan B. League. But the PBA remains his ultimate destination.
“Never naman pong mawawala iyong PBA para sa akin,” Ravena said last Saturday in the online show The Chasedown. “Kasi, I don’t think my career would be fulfilling if I don’t play in the PBA.”
After a sterling collegiate career with Ateneo which he powered to three straight UAAP titles and winning finals MVP each season, Ravena opted to skip the PBA draft in 2019 despite being projected as the likely top pick overall.
He signed instead with San-En NeoPhoenix as the first Filipino and Asian to play as an import under the league’s Asian quotas initiative in June last year.
The 6-foot-2 Ravena said his career will go where it takes him.
“As far as basketball is concerned, in my career, I just go wherever basketball takes me.
Wala akong parang specific date na, ‘Ah, in five years, dito ako maglalaro. And then two years after that, dito naman ako’,” Ravena said.
“Ngayon, I’m just focused on the next couple of years with NeoPhoenix, and of course, the 2023 World Cup as well. I mean, if there are things na talagang pinaghahandaan ko for the future, it’s really those two things. Iyon lang po talaga iyong main goal ko as of now.”
