For second straight day, infections stay at 200-mark

FOR the second straight day, new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases stayed in the 200-mark but new deaths climbed to 100, according to the Department of Health.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said total infections in the country rose to 2,836,915, counting the 237 latest cases, while the death toll climbed to 50,449 for a case fatality rate of 1.78.

The positivity rate in the country stood at 1 percent out of the 30,397 tests conducted last December 13.

Active cases continued going south with 10,193 yesterday, lower than the 10,526 reported last Tuesday, with 3,876 mild cases, 3,492 moderate cases, 1,867 severe cases, 567 asymptomatic cases, and 391 critical cases. Active cases account for 0.4 percent of COVID cases in the country.

The DOH also reported 565 more recoveries, raising the number of survivors to 2,776,273.

This means that 97.9 percent of COVID patients in the country have recovered.

Angono, Rizal Mayor Jeri Mae Calderon said they now have zero active COVID cases and declared victory over the deadly virus.

In a Facebook post, Calderon said they achieved the feat on 7:15 p.m. last December 13.

She added they are working on giving booster shots to their constituents and told them to continue observing health protocols after receiving their third jabs.

Calderon said at last count, they have 165 deaths due to the deadly virus while 3,774 recovered after being infected. — With Christian Oineza
