A NAVAL task group rescued five of six fishermen off Sulu yesterday morning, a day after their boat capsized off Patikul town in Sulu, a military official reported.
Lt. Col. Ronaldo Mateo, spokesman of the military’s Joint Task Force Sulu, identified the rescued fishermen as Kaisar Pulalon, Judimar Pulalon, Alvin Pulalon, Rene Pulanon, and Alnaser Hadjirul, residents of Indanan, Sulu.
Their companion, Arman Pulalon, is still the subject of a search and rescue operation, said Mateo.
Mateo said forces from the Naval Task Group Sulu saved the five fishermen at around 7:40 a.m. in the vicinity of Bacungan and Panganaa islands in Barangay Bonbon, Patikul.
Mateo said they were rescued by personnel on board a multi-purpose attack craft after 17 hours of search and rescue operations. The five were brought to the town’s Rural Health Unit for medical checkup.
“In close coordination with the LGUs (local government units) of Patikul and Luuk, we are still searching for the last remaining fisherman in the coastal waters of both municipalities,” said JTF Sulu commander Maj. Gen. William Gonzales.
