GMA Network said on Tuesday that its flagship station is on top of nationwide TV ratings in 2021, with its second free-to-air channel, GTV (Good Television), occupying the second slot in the latter part of the year.
GMA said it registered a net reach of 95.7 percent nationwide, according to Nielsen Phils. TV Audience Measurement’s Total Philippines data from January 1 to December 31, 2021.
The Nielsen Phils. data also showed GMA receiving 46 percent people audience share last year. Per major area, GMA’s net reach was 95.6 percent or 54.4 million viewers in Luzon, 96.4 percent (16.4 million viewers) in Visayas, and 94.9 percent (12 million viewers) in Mindanao.
GMA said it also dominated in regional cities. Metro Cities TV Audience Measurement (MCTAM) 2021 data cited that GMA reached 99.3 percent or an estimated 352,000 viewers in Dagupan, 95.2 percent (2.3 million viewers) in Cebu, and 98 percent (2.1 million viewers) in Davao.
The top GMA programs for 2021 were “First Yaya,” “Encantadia,” “Daig Kayo ng Lola Ko,” “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” “Centerstage,” “Anak ni Waray vs Anak ni Biday,” “24 Oras,” “I Can See You,” “Agimat ng Agila,” and “Love of My Life.” Select GMA programs were also simulcast on GTV as well as on Heart of Asia, GMA’s free-to-view channel featuring dramas from Korea, China, Thailand and other Asian countries.
GTV claimed the second spot as the most-watched station in the country. It recorded 11.6 percent people audience share from November 1 to December 31, surpassing TV5, its closest competitor, with 10.4 percent.
GMA said GTV’s success in ratings was bolstered by its efforts to expand its reach and clarity of reception in areas outside of Manila. It recently commissioned the upgraded analog TV station in Zamboanga which covers Zamboanga City in Zamboanga del Sur as well as the cities of Lamitan and Isabela, as well as other municipalities in Basilan.
