Fire razes building at Army HQ in Taguig

A FIRE of still undetermined origin razed a building inside the Army headquarters at Fort Bonifacio in Taguig City on Monday night.

No one was hurt in the blaze that broke out at the Army’s Finance Center, specifically at the Governance and Strategy Management Office, at around 8:45 p.m., according to Army spokesman Col. Ramon Zagala.

Zagala said firetrucks from the Philippine Navy, Taguig City, Pasay City and Pateros responded to help contain the fire.

The fire was put off at around 10:03 p.m., said Zagala, adding the damage is still being determined.

Zagala said no one was inside the building at that time of the fire. He said a witness reported the fire to authorities, leading to the timely arrival of firetrucks that prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings.

“Someone saw the fire and reported it so firetrucks immediately responded. It was confined to one office,” said Zagala.

“This is an unfortunate event for the Philippine Army, however we are very thankful that no one got hurt from the incident,” said Zagala.

Zagala expressed the Army’s gratitude to fire units and local government units that responded “in helping us to stop the fire before it caused further destruction to other Army properties.”

“The Philippine Army is currently conducting an investigation regarding the cause of the fire and hopes that we find answers as soon as possible,” Zagala added.
