A RECRUITMENT analyst yesterday questioned the number of deployed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) reported by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) for the first 100 days of the Marcos administration.
In a statement, Emmanuel Geslani said they are looking to have clearer information on how many OFWs are rehires and new hires from the period of July to October 2022.
“The recruitment industry is asking the DMW to release a breakdown of the 225,000 workers, who, in their own words, are accepted and sent abroad,” said Geslani.
“So, the question is: How many new hires were actually deployed from July to October?” he asked.
Geslani raised the issue as he noted that deployment numbers have been struggling since the start of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020.
“Deployment of new hires has not increased drastically with the closure of the Saudi Arabia market,” he also said, adding that industry numbers indicate that 50 to 60 percent of those deployed are rehires.
Last week, the DMW reported that 255,429 Filipino workers were able to land jobs abroad during the first 100 days of the Marcos administration.
The DMW said the number is higher by 45 percent compared to the deployment of migrant workers from July to October of last year.
