THE Archdiocese of Palo has set November 8 as the feast day of the “Our Lady of Hope of Palo,” whose image was borne out of stories from the tragedy caused by Super Typhoon “Yolanda.”
In a Decree, Palo Archbishop John Du declared November 8 as the feast day of the local Marian image coinciding with the anniversary of the super typhoon that hit the country back in 2013.
“By virtue of the office vested, recognizing the great piety of the faithful and after having reviewed the petition made by the clergy and faithful of the Archdiocese of Palo, do hereby promulgate and decree establishing November 8 as the Feast of Our Lady of Hope of Palo in the Archdiocese of Palo,” said Du.
“It is declared that every November 8, all parishes in the Archdiocese of Palo will celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Hope of Palo,” he added.
The prelate said the declaration aims to further heighten the faithful’s devotion to the Marian image.
“This is to increase the devotion to Our Lady of Hope of Palo,” said Du.
Back in 2014, Du decided to have an image of the Our Lady of Hope of Palo made in order to immortalize several accounts of “Yolanda” survivors.
In 2015, the seven-foot Marian image was blessed by Pope Francis during the papal visit to Tacloban City and Palo.
The “Our Lady of Hope of Palo” was made out of the debris of the Palo Cathedral following the killer super typhoon.
Yesterday, the country commemorated the 10th anniversary of the Super Typhoon “Yolanda.”
