COUNTERFEIT versions of six over-the-counter medicines are being sold in the market, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The agency said these drug products are “paracetamol (Biogesic®) 500 mg tablet,” “Ibuprofen + parace-tamol (Alaxan® FR) 200 mg/325 mg capsule,” phenylephrine hydrochloride + chlorphenamine maleate + paracetamol (Bioflu®) 10 mg/2 mg/500 mg film-coated tablet,” “aluminum hydroxide + magnesium hy-droxide + simeticone (Kremil-S®) 178 mg/233 mg/30 mg chewable tablet,” “Carbocisteine (Solmux®) 500 mg capsule,” and “loperamide hydrochloride (Diatabs®) 2 mg capsule.”
Counterfeit drug/medicine is defined as “products with the correct ingredients but not in the amounts as provided, wrong ingredients, without active ingredients, with insufficient quantity of active ingredi-ent, which results in the reduction of the drug’s safety, efficacy, quality, strength, or purity.”
The FDA said counterfeit products “pose potential danger or injury to consumers.”
It asked help from the local government units and law enforcement agencies to ensure the counterfeit products are taken out of the market.
