AHEAD of the celebration of the Chinese New Year, an official of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) yesterday urged the Filipino faithful not to solely rely on “luck” this year.
In an interview, CBCP Assistant Secretary General Fr. Bryand Restituto said the faithful must work and pray hard even if 2024 is deemed as their “lucky year.”
“For a prosperous New Year, a prosperous year, it should all come from God, not just from any other charms or symbolisms,” said Restituto.
“It is always coming from God, through prayer, and hard work,” he added.
He said he is issuing the reminder as some individuals choose to fully rely their fortunes on zodiacs, feng shui, or lucky charms.
He said there are even some who grow frustrated if they are unable to have a better life in the past year despite it supposedly being their “lucky year.”
“Let us look at this from a nice perspective when feng shui says this year will be lucky. Some misinterpret it that they don’t work anymore,” he said.
“By the end of the year, if you didn’t do anything, didn’t pray, didn’t work hard, how will it be a prosperous year for you?” asked Restituto.
On Saturday, the Philippines is set to join the world in celebrating the Chinese New Year.
